We begin our day at The Manor at Upton Grey with its garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll in 1908 for Charles Holme, a leading figure in the Arts and Crafts movement. The current owner, Rosamund Wallinger spent years researching the garden’s history, then set about restoring it, and it is now considered to be the most complete and authentic Jekyll designed garden in existence.
We continue from here to West Green Garden, one of England’s finest manor house gardens, marrying traditional style with contemporary design. Created by acclaimed garden designer and Chelsea Flower Show award winner, Marylyn Abbott, we will enjoy lunch in the gorgeous garden conservatory (included) and free time in the gardens.
Your evening is at leisure in the historic city of Windsor with a chance to enjoy the wide variety of cafes and restaurants on our hotel’s doorstep.
Tuesday 2nd July
Tuesday is the prestigious first members-only day of the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, the largest flower show in the world and a highlight every time this world-class show is on our itinerary. Explore magnificent floral displays, extraordinary show gardens, garden tools and products, a host of garden structures and artefacts and entertaining live music and gardening talks. If you need a quiet moment, step into the beautiful Palace gardens adjacent. Lunch is at leisure at the show (independent).
We return to Windsor for dinner in our hotel (included).
Wednesday 3rd July
After check out from the hotel, we head west towards Bath. We make a stop at a beautiful private garden, Old Camps, near Newbury. This 8 acre private garden is full of surprises from traditional herbaceous borders through desert and prairie planting, to exuberant and exotic subtropical schemes.
In the afternoon we’re treated to lunch (included) and a private guided tour of the Walled Garden at Bowood House, home of the Marquis and Marchioness of Landsdowne, set amidst one of Britain’s finest ‘Capability Brown’ landscapes. We then take a short drive to the historic city of Bath and check into the 5-star MacDonald Bath Spa Hotel for the next three nights. Dinner in the hotel included.
Thursday 4th July
Today we are thrilled to visit to the Royal Garden at Highgrove – home to HRH the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. These gardens have been created by the Prince of Wales during his thirty years of ownership and are widely regarded as some of the most inspired and innovative gardens in the UK. After the guided gardens tour, we’ll enjoy lunch in the Orchard Restaurant (included).
After lunch, we return to the Regency spa City of Bath where the rest of the day is spent at leisure. Marvel at the Georgian architecture, bathe in the natural hot spring waters of Bath Spa or discover more about Jane Austen, Bath’s most famous resident at the Jane Austen Centre. Your evening is at leisure in Bath.
Friday 5th July
We begin the day with a private guided tour of the walled garden at Iford Manor, a Grade I Italianate garden designed by the architect and landscape gardener Harold Ainsworth Peto who lived here from 1899 to 1933. The Manor House is also famed for its tranquil beauty and romantic setting.
After we continue onto Stourhead – England’s finest landscape garden. We will have time for lunch (independent) before taking a guided tour of the garden. At its centrepiece is a magnificent lake reflecting classical temples, mystical grottoes, and rare and exotic trees.
We return to our hotel for our final nights’ dinner (included).
Saturday 6th July
We check out of the Bath Spa Hotel and make our final garden visit to a unique garden, Hanham Court. This privately owned house has award-winning gardens which were designed and developed by Julian and Isabel Bannerman over twenty years. The gardens are truly romantic and a rare treat. We’ll enjoy a stroll through the gardens and a light lunch (included) before departure.
