Autumn Garden / Rose Garden Crossing
In our short virtual garden tour this is the point where the path between the Autumn Garden and the Rose Garden crosses the herbaceous borders. Newby Hall garden has been designed to provide interest in all the seasons. Here you may enter the Rose Garden, continue down to the Middle Walk Crossing, or move up towards the house.
There are about fifty dogwoods (cornus) and many other interesting plants from all over the world in this wonderful garden's 25 acres. Beautifully manicured and maintained, it really must be visited to be appreciated.
Robin Compton explains:
"The soil is well drained sandy loam, the trees above give light shade and the cornus thrive - their success here encouraged me to apply to hold the National Collection of Cornus at Newby. Three beds are established and a fourth has just been planted. For cornus enthusiasts a comprehensive guide is available from the Newby Shop". |
