Fairfield House Garden
Lanning Roper had a hand in the development of this informal garden, in a beautiful setting of lawns, cedars of Lebanon and other mature specimen trees.
The garden extends to four acres on a south-facing slope beneath chalk downs with extensive walls and a legacy of fine trees. Roses are grouped in cascades throughout the upper part of the garden and along the verandah of the delightful house.
Featured in 'A Heritage of Roses' by Hazel Le Rougetel, The 'Rose Gardens of England' by Michael Gibson and 'The Latest Country Gardens' by George Plumtre, this impressive range of shrub roses is carefully catalogued by the owners, Mr and Mrs Wake, for the benefit of visitors to their garden.
